The Beginning
Working in standard investment firms taught us more than finance.
It taught us that we wanted to innovate a more ethical, purpose-driven model for investing. So we left in 2008, just as the financial collapse around us proved that our instincts were correct. Founded in downtown Denver that same year, Syntrinsic has been built over the years with a deep focus on serving the nonprofit sector.
Syntrinsic’s CEO, Ben Valore-Caplan, and his partners purchased the historic US Army Medical Depot at 3840 York Street in Denver’s Clayton neighborhood in 2018 and renovated the space to make it Syntrinsic’s home. We have curated the other tenants to serve local nonprofit organizations and small businesses representative of the broader community.
“It was great to be in LoDo ten years ago when we first started,” Ben Valore-Caplan told ColoradoBiz Magazine last year. “We needed to establish ourselves and a LoDo address helped legitimize us… When you work so closely with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, Colorado Public Radio and Mile High Early Learning, it makes sense to be helping support the same communities as our clients.”

Community Involvement
In the Neighborhood
We’re not in Cherry Creek or Downtown Denver. We’ve invested in the under-served neighborhoods alongside our nonprofit clients.
Giving Back
We put more than 5% of revenues annually to donations, sponsorships of nonprofit organizations, and dues to public policy advocacy organizations.
Staff Participation
We match employee donations up to $1,000 and everyone gets time to serve on boards, volunteer, and serve on committees to improve our city.
As the former executive director of a nonprofit, and a fourth-generation Coloradan, I could see the opportunity for a service-focused, deeply ethical investment management firm. I started Syntrinsic so we could help those working hard to make their communities better, here in Colorado and beyond.
