In 2020, the COVID-19 health crisis devasted the economy and people’s livelihoods, leading to a drop-in economic activity not seen since the Great Depression. Add in the social justice issues and it was hard to see how any investor could even think about investing in the markets. However, the economy, the investment markets, and our society were extremely resilient. Yes, there are still challenges on the horizon but opportunities as well. The economic stimulus provided by governments and central banks globally, the development of a vaccine for COVID-19, and the technological advances over the last year have provided both the economy and the investment markets with the ability to recover relatively quickly from this crisis. All of this only reinforces why it is essential for long-term investors to remain fully invested even in the face of adversity.
